Acting as Play: Grad School Edition
with Gabriel Levey
In this 6 week course (which includes a free one on one coaching session on Zoom), 8 people will have the opportunity to work with Pandemonium co-founder and faculty member Gabriel Levey on their audition monologues.
The course will start with an open discussion about the graduate school audition process and why the pleasure of the performer is the most critical, and often overlooked piece of the process. We will then move into individual monologue work, using the language of clown and games as a means to draw out as much fun, wonder and surprise as is possible in each piece. Everyone will be up on their feet with text in each class. After 5 weeks of play, we will put it all together with a mock audition on the final class.
Over the last 5 years alone, Gabe has assisted individuals get accepted into the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale, Juilliard, NYU, Brown/Trinity Rep, Columbia, The Pig Iron School, Steppenwolf, The Actor's Theatre of Louisville, CalARTS, UCSD in addition to RADA, Guildhall, Rose Buford, and Central School of Speech and Drama in London. COME PLAY!!
**This class is not exclusive to folks auditioning for MFA programs. While there will be a focus on grad school auditions, it is meant to serve all actors looking to work on monologues/solo material**

Advanced Beginner Play!
with Justine Williams
What if acting were just play, and the key to your aliveness and full magnificence on stage was primarily a process of rediscovering and developing your playful impulses with, for and through an audience? In this 8-week acting class, we’ll explore solo exploits, group games and physical training exercises (drawn from the pandemonium arts) to re-awaken your muscles for play, and to establish ways of playing together on stage.
With our playful impulses poised at the ready, we’ll see how characters, stories and theatrical worlds might spring forth through the simple pleasure of our play, and the promise of a good game.
The play principles and storytelling tools established here will ground you in your pursuit of clown, commedia and related forms, and enliven your approach to embodying characters and performative worlds, as well as imagining and creating your own.

Russian Études (or, Scheduled F*ck Around Time)
with Annelise Lawson
Ever started rehearsal and felt stuck by how something "should" look? Get rid of that icky sense of "ought" and investigate the profound beauty of the f*ck around! Rediscover your imagination and let it guide you. Using this rehearsal tool developed from Stanislavski’s final experiments, students will explore scenes through the framework of their own impulses and artistic curiosities. We'll begin by rebuilding our relationship to imaginative play through a series of exploratory improvisations - or études. We'll then turn these exercises loose on text - investigating the unanswered questions through spontaneous play. Pull even the most intimidating texts off their pedestals and make them your own. F*ck around and find out!
